Softpencil Presents: Flowers for You!

Featured this week is "Flowers for You," a Softpencil digi that is just perfect for Easter! The DT's challenge this week was to use flowers. The little Bunny is holding an armful of flowers which could be colored, but I chose to cover them with "Got Flowers?" Then I added pearls to the centers of each. To carry out the flower theme, I used flowered DP from DCWV. Accent CS was embossed using Swirls and Dotted Swiss folders. I added a MS punched border and Hobby Lobby ribbons, of course! ;)
Zap yourself over to the Softpencil Shop, and take a look at the new Easter digis Elizabeth just released this week! You'll fall in LOVE! Digi Phobia???

NOOOOoooooooooo!
Never Fear! Help is here! Shirley's 2 Girls have a NEW page devoted to information about DIGITAL STAMPS! The link is HERE! I was somewhat "scared" of digis at first, but now I use them almost exclusively. They can be resized to use on any project. Storage is easy peasy! I have a folder for each company's digis on my computer. No more searching in drawers for the image I need, or trying to remember which company made the image... And.... I don't have to clean an image after I use it! So, if you have been wondering how to use a digi, now is the time to conquor your fears! Zap on over to S2G and have a look at their tutorial. Then zap over to the S2G Shop and pick out some "Digis with Attitude" to try out your new skill! What are you waiting for?

Tutorial: How to Paper Piece

This is Lilly, one of Elizabeth's new Softpencil digi images. Elizabeth asked me to do a tutorial on how to paper piece, so here it is! Choose an image to paper piece. I chose Lilly and ran her off in 3x5, shrink to fit size. When paper piecing, you don't want an image that is too small or has too many small details.
Make three copies. One should be on white CS, and the other two on coordinating papers.
First, color Lilly's skin and hair.
I wanted Lilly's hairbow, ruffles, and shoes to be solid pink. I cut out the shoes and hairbow. The ruffles are tiny, so I cut out the entire dress. I cut off the top of the flower. I'll show that part later.
Glue the cut pieces to the dress, shoes, and hair bow. Apply the glue to the paper. It's easier that way when working with small pieces. Also a glue pen works best.
This is what Lilly looks like after the pink paper has been applied.
Next cut out the dress without any ruffles attached, and the center of the bow. Using the glue pen, attach the patterned paper.

Trace the flower on to a small piece of paper, and cut out. Then glue it in place. I chose a piece that was patterned and placed it so the pattern formed the center of the flower.
I used a Copic marker to color the stem of the flower.

I also used a Copic to shade the hair bow.
Then I trimmed around the figure, leaving a small border. I added pop dots and placed Lilly on an embossed Nesties circle, framed by a scalloped circle, and placed her on the card.
So there you have it! I hope you'll give paper piecing a try!

It's a Pastel Colors Twisted Thursday!

My husband likes this card even though it has a GASP organza ribbon on it! Organza ribbon is my favorite but not so much his. The cute little rabbit is a digi stamp from S2G, and it comes with two sentiments. The rabbit was colored with Copics and placed on an embossed (Provo Craft Swirls Folder) oval Nestie. Borders were cut using the Lacy Hearts MS Punch. DP is DCWV. I cut the flowers out of the paper, traced them on to Bazzill CS, cut them out, and inked around the edges with Copics. I threaded satin ribbon through the button holes and then attached them to the flowers. Need some inspiration? Check out the very talented DT's blogs. Their links are in my sidebar. We each got to choose the image we wanted for this challenge, so you are in for a treat! With Easter right around the corner, I hope you'll enter this week's challenge. You could win TWO Digis of your choice and a Winner's Badge for your blog! Whoo Hoo!
Visit Mr. Linky and enter your card HERE.

Softpencil Thursday Featuring a Mandala!

The gorgeous Mandala on my card is "Labyrinth of Love", and was designed by Elizabeth's very talented sister, Natalia. This design was so much fun to color! The design was printed on cream colored CS, colored with Copics, and highlighted with pink Smooch. I added pearls by Mark Richards and  flowers from "Got Flowers?". Buttons are from Buttons Galore and More. The lace was purchased at a Flea Market more years ago than I care to share! LOL I threaded the buttons with embroidery floss from my stash. A Nesties from the Polka Dot Frame set was used to cut the flowers. A MS punch was used for the border along with an organza ribbon from Hobby Lobby.
This Mandala and many more, along with the cutest digi stamps you have ever seen are available in the Softpencil Shop at very reasonable prices. Elizabeth will also be sponsoring several challenges this month, so take a look at the Softpencil Blog and see what's new!  Need some inspiration? The DT has been busy working on their projects. On an Egg Roll!

I'd like to be on an egg roll! It's tax time in the US, and it's giving me a headache, literally! Too many forms to check and recheck! Well, that's enough whining for now...on to my card.
I used the image from Shirley's 2 Girls recent Free Digi Day. I used DCWV DP and cut the butterflies out, mounted them on Bazzill CS, added glittered pearls, and then attached them to the card with pop dots. I layered two embossed Nestie Dahlia shapes, and added a two tone lacy border using a MS punch. Stickles and a dotted ribbon complete the card.
S2G's next SNR Free Digi Day is scheduled for April 10, 8;00-10:00 P.M. EST. I hope you'll join us then!

It's a Very Special S2G Twisted Thursday!

This week "The Girls" are celebrating having the most players EVER in a TT Challenge...60! So they have a surprise for you! It has something to do with my card this week! (Wink!)
The image is "The Cheshire Cat" from the new "Alice in Wonderland" release. Do you like him? I paper pieced him, and shaded him with Copics. I popped him up with popdots and placed him on top of Nesties embossed circles. I distressed the embossing with a pink stamp pad. Then I cut the flower from the Dahlia Nestie set, curled the edges with tweezers, and added a button and rhinestone to the center. I made a bow using my favorite organza ribbon and placed the flower on top. Then I added accents with Stickles.
CS is Bazzill, DP is DCWV and Bo Bunny, and ribbon is Hobby Lobby.
Now for the Surprise! Is it this week's sketch?
No, because the sketch is optional! You can  choose to use it or not. Are you ready? Because the surprise is....
you get your very own Cheshire Cat for this week's challenge!
